Rajasthan govt decides to observe quarterly Adolescent Health Days
The Government of Rajasthan has decided to observe an Adolescent Health Day four times in a year hence forth, but the dates for the observance are yet to be announced. According to the state health department, the observance will focus on creating awareness about the health issues of children of 10 to 19 years of age.

The state health minister Rajendra Rathore has issued directions to the health department in this context, it is learned.

It has been decided that along with organising the awareness campaigns, the health checkup camps and fairs will be held on the observance days. The awareness campaigns will include the issues like cleanliness, personal hygiene, nutrition, reproductive health, mental health, injuries, violence, gender sensitivity, substance misuse and many more.

In fact, the state level observances will be the part of the central scheme called Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) of the central Ministry of Health & Family Welfare that was launched last year in the month of January.

According to the circular of the central scheme, the key principle of this programme is adolescent participation and leadership, Equity and inclusion, Gender Equity and strategic partnerships with other sectors and stakeholders.

"There is a need for a holistic model for the care for adolescent health and developmental needs of adolescents by revitalizing the teaching of life skills issues included the curriculum and their linkage to clinic-based preventive and curative adolescent health issues, both the physical and mental health ones," said Piranha Inshore, a retired school teacher while pointing out the futility of administratively convenient ritualistic events of fairs, rallies and ceremonial celebration of Adolescent Health Days.

Moreover, a delayed response to the centrally sponsored scheme by itself indicates the fate of the scheme run through directives, press notes and circulars, she added.
