Rajasthan to celebrate Maharana Pratap Jayanti with great zeal and fervour
Rajasthan gets ready to celebrate the birth anniversary of legendary Maharana Pratap as true patriot on June 9 as per Hindu calendar. His birth anniversary, also called Maharana Pratap Jayanti will be celebrated as a great festival in Rajasthan on 3rd day of Jyestha Shukla phase this time.

Along with the state government's events, various social groups and Rajput Sabhas are going to take out processions and cultural programs on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti. Various statues of Maharana Pratap dotting the state are cleaned and decked up for garlanding.

However, as per the British calendar, Maharana Pratap was born on May 9th, 1540 in Kumbhalgarh in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan to Maharana Udai Singh II and Rani Jeevant Kanwar.

He fought the famous battle of Haldighati with Mughal Emperor Akbar bravely. It was a battle that has made it to the history that lasted for four hours. Despite being highly outnumbered by Mughal soldiers, Maharana Pratap as a warrior fought with great courage and killed many in the battlefield including Man Singh, though he lost the battle.

However, interest in Maharana Pratap has revived as a true patriot under the present regime as an epitome of valour, heroism, patriotism and the spirit of independence. In the textbooks of Rajasthan, history has been 'rewritten' depicting 'Pratap the great' instead of 'Akbar the great'.

According to Simran, "Maharana Pratap Singh, the 'Lion of Mewar', is a heroic figure among Indian legends. His name is engraved with gold among the list of valiant kings who fought for the honour of nation. This great Rajput King preferred to sacrifice his life than surrendering against enemies of nation. He struggled like a true valiant for freedom even under adverse."
