Rajasthan's Kota sets world record of largest International Yoga Day gathering
In Jaipur, the International Yoga Day (IYD) was celebrated on Thursday at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Stadium, in various parks, in front of monuments, in public places, in institutions, in clubs wherein even couples performed yoga aasanas together. It was for perhaps the first time that the 'partner yoga' was performed in the city.

Various gyms, social groups, tourism department, religious groups, spiritual groups, security forces, defence forces and temples joined the fray and all brands of yoga, meditation and fitness exercises were witnessed.

However, it was Kota that stole the show by setting world record for the largest number of people performing yoga aasanas at one place at the same time on IDY in the presence of a team of Guinness Book of World Records.

Rajasthan's chief minister Vasundhara Raje and yoga guru Baba Ramdev led the participants in performing yoga at RAC ground in Kota.

According to website, "Baba Ramdev should be credited for his exemplary work of creating awareness about yoga across commoners around the world. Baba Ramdev specializes in different forms of pranayama which is said to cure many diseases and ailments including facilitating weight loss and lifestyle related disorders. Baba Ramdev's pranayama modules are quite popular as yoga for weight loss... Baba Ramdev is said to have been influenced by Aurobindo Ghose's booklet Yogik Sadhna, which led to his deep affection for yoga and meditation in the caves of Himalaya."

The earlier world record was held by Mysore for largest number of people performing yoga at one place at the same time on IDY which happened last year.
