Rajasthan's schools celebrate Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's birth anniversary as Student's Day
In the schools of Rajasthan, APJ Abdul Kalam's birth anniversary, October 15, was celebrated as Student' Day with essay competitions, declamation contests and painting competitions centred around his life and works.
Owing to his love for students and advocacy for quality education, the United Nations declared his birthday as 'World Student's Day' in 2010. Students were inspired by his devotion to science and education and often his quotes are cited and shared by them on social networking sites.

He had always loved interacting with students and he died last year in July while delivering a lecture to the students at IIM Shillong and his sudden demise was mourned by everyone.

The Central Board of Secondary Education asked the affiliated schools to organize Expression Series on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on 15th October with three categories of participation such as Classes I to V; Classes VI to VIII and Classes IX to XII by submitting entries as essay/ poem/ drawing.

The CBSE has announced that the best 36 entries in each category shall be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,500 and a certificate of merit.
