Rajasthan's week long 'Pushkar Fair' is in full swing
Eleven-day Pushkar Fair, also called Pushkar Cattle Fair that stared on November 18, is in full swing with Indian and foreign tourists participating in good number and with enthusiasm. The fair will conclude on November 25 with a colorful ceremony.

"Over the years, Pushkar Fair has become a great crowd puller and famous across the world. Come November and the rich tradition of Rajasthan comes alive at Pushkar which is a few kilometers away from Ajmer- another tourist attraction. That is why the fair witnesses the largest gathering of tourists all around the world in Rajasthan," said Prabha Kishore, a retired teacher in Jaipur who has visited the fair a couple of times.

Competitions such as the "matka phod", "longest moustache", "turban tying" and "bridal dress competition" attract tourists a lot.  Now, the fair also includes an exhibition cricket match between the local Pushkar club and a team of random foreign tourists.

The visitors from Rajasthan and other states make a bee-line for the fair as a part of pilgrimage to the only temple in India dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the three worlds as per the Hindu scriptures. The sweet water holy lake with 52 bathing Ghat on its banks in Pushkar is being thronged by the devout to take a dip to wash away all their sins.

Singing, dancing, camping, camel races, traditional games, puppet shows, various fun competitions in which foreigners too participate are the main attractions of the fair.  It's an opportunity to be part of one of the most spectacular fairs of the world.

The golden sand dunes around Pushkar and folk performances give the fair a typical rural charm to the fair.  For the foreigners, Pushkar fair is a unique life-time experience. Bedecked camels, folk performing-art displays by colourfully dressed men and women add an extra charm. At least, one lakh tourists and pilgrims are expected to visit Pukshar for the week-long fair.
