Rajnikant should say no to film on Tipu Sultan as he was anti-Tamil: Tamil Nadu BJP
Political party BJP and some hardline outfits in Tamil Nadu have warned superstar Rajnikanth not to do a film based on the life of Tipu Sultan, as according to them 18th century ruler, Tipu Sultan was anti-Tamil. Senior BJP leader L. Ganesan said that Rajinikanth should not act in the movie.
"He (Rajinikanth) is my very good friend. I am sure he will not take up the role portraying Tipu Sultan as a hero. Tipu was an aggressor, who committed maximum atrocities against Hindus. Rajinikanth will never take up a role to portray such a character," said L. Ganeshan, as reported by The Sunday Express.

The whole drama started when leading Kannada producer Ashok Kheny announced that he was planning to make a movie on Tipu Sultan and wants Tamil actor Rajinikanth to star in it. According to the agitators it's wrong to glorify the foreigners who invaded our country and the culture.

Sources close to Rajnikanth said that he has not yet taken any kind of decision over this matter. While Ashok Kheny feels that the people are just objecting for publicity.

Kheny even praised Tipu Sultan while saying that he was the one who fought British along with Hindu rulers and opened trade routes to Persia and several other countries. He had even approached the American rulers to defeat Britishers.
