Currently Dhanush is busy working on Kutty and also has Aadukalam in line, in which he is paired with Trisha. Director Suraj has again showed faith in Suraj and has again roped in Dhanush for the romantic comedy film. Hansika Motwani captured popular imagination after her famous Bournvita ad and if things work out, Mappilai would be her first Tamil movie. She has earlier acted in a few Telugu and Hindi films.

Suraj firmly believes that even a remake would have a new-look screenplay and will have more commercial ingredients and characterisations. Suraj has earlier made super hit films like Thalainagaram and Maruthamalai. The shooting of the movie will start by August end and will be produced by Hitesh Jhabak.
