Rakhi: A bond of eternal affection between brothers and sisters
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, being celebrated on August 13, sisters tie rakhi, a sacred thread, on their brothers' wrists. The sacred thread signifies brother's lifelong promise to protect and safeguard her.

RAKSHA BANDHAN or Rakhi festival is a major festival of North India, which is dedicated to affection and emotional bond between brothers and sisters. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day of the Shravan month of the Hindu calendar. This year the festival is being celebrated on August 13.

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie rakhi, a sacred thread, on thier brothers' wrists. The sacred thread signifies brother's lifelong promise to protect and safeguard her.

But, these days, brothers offer gifts to sisters as they tie rakhis and present sweets to their brothers.

The brother and sister traditionally feed one another sweets. In tying rakhi, Male cousins and adopted brothers are also included.

In a broader sense, the festival signifies the protection and wellbeing of the weak by the the strong.

 Here's my formulation on RAKHI.

R: Relationship and emotional bond between brothers

A: And sisters that

K: Kindle a sense of responsibility of care and protection of sisters by tying a sacred thread on the

H: Hands of brothers in

I: India and elsewhere.
