Rao Inderjit Singh allocated 3 portfolios- Planning, statistics program implementation and defense
Rao Inderjit Singh on Monday took oath of office with our 15th Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rao Inderjit, who won quite a chunk of vote in Gurgaon was allocated the portfolio of of planning (independent charge), statistics and programme implementation (independent charge) and defense.
With his appointment as the independent planning ministry, Rao Inderjit would be answerable to the questions raised in the Parliament and not to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Till date, the Prime Minsiter was answerable. However, inspite of this, Narendra Modi would be the chairperson of the Planning Commission.
As was reported by hindustantimes.com, Rao Inderjit on the Commission's priorities said,"Let me have some knowledge about this department, then only we will set the priorities…right now, the question about priorities linger in my mind too.'' Before taking charge of the office, Rao held a meeting with officials of the ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MOSPI).
64 year olf Rao Inderjit Singh was initially affiliated with Congress. However, after a lot of political drama, he quit Congress in February 2014 and joined BJP. Having been elected to the lower house for the fourth time, he was as also a MoS (external affairs and defence production) in UPA-1 government.
