Media attention is proving a boon in cases like the Ruchika - Rathore case. The Indian legal system needs reminding that justice delayed is like justice denied. How does one explain a 19 years long molestation case?
THE PANCHKULA Court in Haryana dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of former state DGP S.P.S . Rathore on Jan 08 2010. Rathore is the accused in the 1990 molestation case of teenager Ruchika Girhotra .
Additional district and session judge Sanjeev Jindal dismissed the bail plea filed after two fresh FIRs were registered against Rathore in Dec 29 and Rathore was booked under non – bailable charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, forging evidence, wrongful confinement. With the dismissal of the bail application, Rathore`s arrest is expected soon and the arguments of Pankaj Bhardwaj, the counsel for the Girhotra family and Abha, the lawyer wife of 67 year old Rathore were heard by a packed courtroom.
The wrong confinement of the post – mortem report of 14 year old Ruchika Girhotra is on the fresh FIR report. Arguing before the court, Abha said that the Dec 29th cases were filed under pressure from media. If that's true, well then kudos to the media. But the most important question is why did Ruchika's case take so long. Today, it seems that fear of the media is the only thing capable of speeding justice. We seem to have forgotten the wisdom of 'justice late is justice denied' Indian legal system is needs a serious over haul.
