UNION FINANCE Minister should rationalise postal-tariffs in forthcoming Union Budget with new tariffs to be applicable from from first day of new financial-year i.e. 1st April to make these systematic and practical aimed to reduce heavy subsidy bill on postal-services.
-Inland mail-tariffs should be generally in multiples of rupees five making Book Post tariff also at rupees five. - Meghdoot Post-Cards should be priced at rupee one with ordinary post-cards and Inland-Letter-Cards discontinued. - Speed Post tariffs should be uniform both for local and inter-city tariffs at rupees fifteen per 50 gms or part thereof.
- Foreign-mail tariffs should be in multiples of rupees ten making aerogramme priced for rupees ten. - Foreign-mail tariffs should be fixed for weight-slabs of 20 gms for air-mail and of 100 gms for surface (or sea) mail. - Foreign-mail tariffs for air-mail letters should be rationalised to rupees twenty for first 20 gms., and then rupees ten for every additional 20 gms or part. - Foreign-mail tariffs for surface-sea-mail letters should be rupees 50 per 100 gms or part
Such revisions will reduce postal-subsidy without much affecting users of postal-services. It is senseless to price post-cards below one rupee when even beggars refuse to accept coins below rupee one!
