KANDIVIL BASED artist Ravi Mandlik is into painting abstracts. He completed his GD art in painting from Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai and worked there as a lecturer for quite some time. He is a full time painter by profession and has been exhibiting his works for more than 10 years.

Mandlik has recently finished a series of 130 paintings named ’Quest’. "What inspires me to paint is nature. Nature emanates a secret language and I constantly try to decipher it. It is like turning the pages of a book of revelations. I completely surrender myself in understanding these, and thus see the unseen in positive patterns that shape them on my canvas.

I have always enjoyed every little thing in life. It could either be the glorious sunset, the full moon, or the twinkling stars adorning the skies, which excites me to pick up my brush. Everywhere in nature I find signs, some visible and some audible, trying to stir my soul and remind me of my position on this earth in relation to every other human being. The beauty of nature has always engulfed my heart. My spirits are uplifted through the simple act of observing all the forms of nature and then trying to get them on my canvas," said Mandlik.

Speaking about awards Mandlik said, "I have got many awards for my work. I am one of the five winning artists from India for the Windsor and Newton worldwide millennium painting competition held in the year 1999. In the year 1992, I won the International award of Seychelles Visual Art Biennale from the Seychelles government and Usha Deshmukh Gold-Medal from Sir J.J. School of Art (1985)".

"Individually, I have held 15 solo shows and 40 group shows in Delhi, Bangalore, Karnataka, Japan and New York. Internationally, I have been a part of several eminent art shows like Imprints, The Ueno Royal Museum Tokyo, 2007; International show organised by Articulate, New York, 2007; Power of Peace, Bali, 2007; The Indin Art Show 2006; The Chapel Gallery, Singapore.I like the works of artists like Gaitonde from Mumbai and Ramkumar from Delhi," he added.
