Ravi Shastri, the man behind India's triumph in the ODI series: Former Cricketers
Former Indian cricketers attributed India's success in the ODI series against England to the recently appointed 'Team Director' Ravi Shastri. After India's debacle in the Test series against England, BCCI roped in Ravi Shastri for the ODI series, hoping that the former opening bastsman would help change fortunes. He did not disappoint, as India have already clinched the series, 3-0 with a match left to play.

''Ravi Shastri's presence helped a lot, as the players might have been demoralised after their Test series loss,'' said Ajit Wadekar, former Indian cricketer. Ravi Shastri is a man of his words and a strict disciplinarian, who tries to get out of the situation.

''Ravi is a very firm guy. His each words mean something or the other. If someone like Duncan Fletcher talks in a polite manner, it may not work sometimes. On the contrary, Shastri can be harsh as well, and the players feel the need to pull up their socks,'' said another former cricketer, Karsan Ghavri. By the looks of things in the ODI series, the Indian team definitely pulled their socks up and showed what they could do on the field – they have outplayed England.

Surely, one has to give credit to Ravi for the teams success, as it was the same team, which lost in the Test series, barring Suresh Raina from the starting eleven. Karsan added, ''As soon as the Test series was over, Ravi Shastri was inducted as the 'Team Director', and within no time, the transformation has come, which can be justified by the results.''

Ravi has been successful in igniting fire in the minds of the Indian players, which is a must as well with the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup coming up in Australia early next year. But, one is not sure if Ravi would be in-charge of the Indian team till the world cup, as he had been roped for the ODI series only. The BCCI needs to think about it and extend it till the 2015 world cup, if possible, to yield best possible results for Indian cricket. Karsan adds, ''I am all in for Ravi Shastri. He could help the Indian team perform well in the world cup as well.''

If the Indian team can play like the way they have been doing in the ongoing series, India's could travel to Australia as favourites. The current Indian team seems to be well balanced to defend the title in Australia, which they won in 2011.

Wadekar said, ''This team has been gelling really well and it also has the right combination of experience and youth. But, I feel we should have one more spinner in the squad for the world cup, as the competition will last more than a month so, the pitches can deteriorate and the Indian spinner can play a huge role.''
