Raw water: Unfiltered, untreated water, the new obsession of Silicon Valley elites which is ridiculously expensive!
The elites and rich of the world seem to keep finding ways to increase the limits of defining luxury and one of such benchmark is drinking 'raw water'.

Raw water! Now, what's that?

The New York Times puts this word into spotlight. And no, it is not water from the moon, it's just plain water but untreated. Usually water is treated in order to prevent the spread of bacteria that are present inside it but now Silicon Valley leaders seem to have developed a new fantasy for unfiltered water.

And this doesn't seem to be any minor trend. Companies providing raw water seem to be springing up. At present, the price is $36.99 for a 2.5 gallon jug. But health experts have warned against such practices claiming that the bacteria generally found in water can have a slow but extreme impact on the health of humans, so consuming raw water can be extremely dangerous for health.

While it is not plain tap water, this raw water is being gathered from natural springs. But living in the world we are, no stream seems to be clean enough and no spring can provide water that is hundred per cent free from bacteria that do not impact the health of people.

One of the major reasons for raw water being a dangerous trend is that human bodies over a long period of time have got used to treated water and the immunity against even less dangerous bacteria has decreased considerably.

According to the Business Insider, unfiltered, untreated spring water might contain animal feces which could lead to the spread of giardia. Every year at least 4,600 people in the United States alone are hospitalized due to giardia, the symptoms of which include diarrhea and vomiting. Furthermore, life threatening diseases like Hepatitis A and cholera could also spread by consuming untreated water.

Another cause of worry is that spring water comes in contact with various chemicals while it passes through soil and rocks which can be even poisonous so the impact can be extreme.

But can health regulators do anything about it? Well, although there are regulations regarding bottled water, no such regulationsexistfor raw water as of now.
