RBI set to unveil new Rs 200 notes; printing of Rs 2000 notes discontinued
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has discontinued printing of 2000 rupee notes and speeded-up the printing of more new batches of 500 rupee notes around five months back, according to a report in Livemint.

However, no official notification has yet been released by the Central Bank that it has halted printing of Rs 2000 notes.

As per the report, the RBI is likely to release new notes of Rs 200 which may come into circulation in the market by next month. The printing of Rs 200 notes has already started at RBI's Mysuru printing press and nearly 100 billion pieces of 200 rupee notes are likely to be released in the market soon.

"Initially, around a billion Rs 200 notes are expected to hit the market," quoted a source as saying.

"Most of the printing that's being done, about 90% is only Rs 500 notes. Nearly 14 billion pieces of new Rs 500 notes have been printed so far," said the Livemint report.
