Reaffirm commitment to a world with health for all: UN Chief on International Universal Health Coverage Day
The UN-established first International Universal Health Coverage Day (IUHCD) is being observed worldwide today, December 12, across the world to urge the world community to extend access to quality and affordable health care to all.

On the occasion of the first IUHCD, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General stated, "Strong leadership and community engagement are essential in ensuring that all people get the healthcare they need. On this International Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to a world with health for all."

Terming good health as a fundamental human right and crucial to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he added, "Quality physical and mental health services should be accessible to everyone, everywhere. Tragically, that is not the case for half the world's population. And each year, 100 million people are driven into poverty because care cost far more than they could afford."

According to him, since quality physical and mental health services have not become  accessible to everyone and everywhere, each year, 100 million people are driven into poverty because care cost far more than they could afford. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that improving health is a smart investment in human capital that helps to promote economic growth and reduce poverty, he held.
