Reallocate 5000 MW Power to Delhi meant for CWG, AIPEF
All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) in a letter to Union Power Minister has demanded that Ministry of Power should reallocate the power from central sector projects to Punjab, Haryana and other power deficient states.
THE 5000 MW power given to Delhi for Commonwealth Games 2010 should be reallocated to Punjab, Haryana and other power deficient states of the region.

All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) in a letter to Union Power Minister has demanded that Ministry of Power should reallocate the power from central sector projects to Punjab, Haryana and other power deficient states which was given to Delhi for Commonwealth Games.

Ministry of Power has allocated more than 5000 MW of power to Delhi for the Games. As per analysis made from the official NRLDC figures by AIPEF, the daily power availability and peak MW availability of Delhi even during the games’ period was much more than actual requirements.

Delhi has been given energy in excess of requirement to the extent of 11 to 12 million units per day while the allocation of peak Mega Watt was in excess of requirement to the extent of 600 to 1000 MW during games’ period. Delhi discoms has been under drawing in energy and earning unscheduled interchange charges running in to crore of rupees for this generosity of Power Ministry.

Padamjit Singh, chairman of AIPEF said that it can be concluded that while the extra power availability was arranged by the Government of India through NTPC and other sources, the profit resulting from under drawl and surrender of such power would be pocketed by the privatised discoms.

AIPEF demands that now after the completion of Commonwealth Games, the Ministry of Power should reallocate the power from central sector projects so that the power deficient states of Northern region can get relief and undue benefits to private discoms of Delhi are addressed.
