Reflections and contemplations on Mother’s Day
Idea of Mother’s Day celebration has caught up in India too which is being promoted both by schools and card industry. However, the celebration has become more commercialized due the intervention of market forces. The day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May but most schools have celebrated Mother's Day on Friday since the second Saturday and Sunday being the holidays.

In its true sense, Mother’s Day is the occasion to remember that a mother's kindness, love and nurture. In the western world, Mother's Day is one of the most popular celebrations of the year that has fallen into commercialization.

Here are some thoughts for contemplation on Mother's Day. Gloria Horsley, a psychotherapist and a grief Expert urges mothers by saying, "Mother yourself! The greatest gift you can give the world is a happy you." A mother's selfless love can be transforming as Rudyard Kipling has rightly said, "An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy."

Similarly while describing what it means to be mother Robert Browning has aptly said,” Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.

A mother's very presence and companionship is reassuring. As Washington Irving puts it, “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
