NAM still forms a vital part of Indian foreign policy. Moreover, not neglecting the important part it had played in the past keeping India and many other member nations on a safer side than joining one of the two camps.
I REALLY don’t agree with the dissolution of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). I do agree that NAM need to be reformulated but that no where means its irrelevance in today’s international scenario. It still forms a vital part of Indian foreign policy. Moreover, it would be wrong to neglect the important part it had played in the past keeping India and many other member nations on a safer side than joining one of the two camps.
But yes, as we know that 'nothing is permanent accept change' in this world, we should also not show stiffness regarding the policy. It should be reformulated as no more 'two blocks' exist. But that again does not mean equality among all nations. Today, there are many divisions present on international stage like south and north division, east and west division etc.
We can take the example of recent debate on the environment and global warming. Here also, the so-called third world nations, which are struggling for self-sufficiency, are expected to cut their 'carbon footprint' and these claims are made by the so-called first world countries, who (without any doubt) are responsible for the present ecological conditions due to their rigorous attempts towards industrial revolution. In this case particularly, NAM can play a vital role as a vehicle of unity among the third world countries. Hence, instead of blind dissolution of this policy, our government should think in terms of using it for betterment of the third world nations.
