Our nation is marred with various critical socio-economic issues namely gender discrimination, terrorism, infanticide, then why these so called patrons of Indian culture are not working on these rather than pitching against gay rights?

IT SEEMS these so called patrons of Indian culture will leave no stone unturned in opposing gay verdict delivered by the respected Delhi High Court on Thursday (June 2) that legalises homosexuality in India.

The supreme body of Sikh religion-Akal Takht that looks into the various affairs of Sikh culture has strongly condemned homosexuality. It has said that the gay union in any form is not tolerable in Sikhism. Further it has also advised all the Gurudwaras spread across the country and world not to indulge in any form of ritual leading to gay marriage.

Earlier on Wednesday, world acclaimed yoga guru Baba Ramdev filed an application in the Supreme Court of India, challenging the verdict of Delhi High Court. Hearing the petition filed by Suresh Kaushal an astrologer on Thursday (June 9), the Supreme Court of India issued notices to the Government of India, Naz Foundation and the Delhi Government to clear their stand on the controversial verdict that has garnered criticism from many sections of the society including political and religious groups.

The scorn from Akal Takht came after a deliberation of various Sikh priests that took place in the Akal Takht secretariat in the holy town of Amritsar. The critical deliberation was attended by its head priest Jathedar-Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib-Giani Balwant Singh, Jathedar of Takht Kesargarh Sahib-Giani Tarlochan Singh and host of others.

The head priest Jathedar-Giani Gurbachan Singh said, “Gay marriages are not acceptable in Sikhism and has no place in Gurmat. He further said “The heads of other religions and faiths also have a similar opinion.”

Another Sikh priest-Harnam Singh Khalsa also opposed the verdict of Delhi High Court, the priest who heads Damdami Taksal vehemently opposed the decision that decriminalises homosexuality, he said “Gay marriages are not acceptable and we oppose it. We may even begin an agitation against gay relations.”

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board that looks into the various shariat laws governing Muslims across the country has also come forward opposing it. It has said that the same sex between two consenting youth is “illegal, irreligious and unnatural.”

Acharya Giriraj Kishore one of the senior most leaders and acclaimed Hindu priest has also fervently opposed the contentious verdict of the Delhi High Court, he said “We regret the court judgment. It will have an adverse impact on the social fabric of our society and will lead to the spread of diseases like HIV/AIDS.”

Our nation is marred with various critical socio-economic issues namely gender discrimination, terrorism, infanticide, unemployment, pollution and many others then why these so called patrons of Indian culture are not working towards addressing these issues?. Why they are interfering gratuitously in gay marriage.
