THE JOINT venture of Renault-Nissan with their Indian partner Bajaj Auto is already working on the small car project for India. They are now thinking of expanding their product portfolio by entering into the making of bigger cars and multi-utility vehicles (MUVs).

The venture sees a great potential in the Indian auto market and wants to explore the market. With just one product on their portfolio, it will not be possible. The product will include not just new variants of the same product but different products as well. The initial agreement on the expansion will be signed in July.

It was in May, 2008, that the contract between Renault-Nissan with Bajaj Auto was signed to roll out ultra-cheap cars in India that could compete with the Tata Nano. Their small car is expected to hit the Indian roads by 2011 with a planned capacity of 4,00,000 units a year.

Sales will start in early 2011 in India, with potential in other emerging markets around the world. Car population in India is increasing every day and is expected to double to two million units by 2010.
