Reservations: Quota or quality
Reservation only provides you an entry into a job. It has no significance in a day-to-day performance which revolves round honesty, dedication, completion of tasks and sincere attitude towards the hoi polloi.
WHEN I came across this topic, I found it to be a biased one similarly as casteism is. It should rather be reservation: hard working v/s sycophants. As a result, I thought to pen down my thoughts. Reservation is one of my favourite topics as were the oppressed for Swami Vivekananda.
He, as a seer, predicted that the dalits would rule over the world in the coming future. Now the time has come. Dalits are garnering respect for their intelligence and education. Since ages, people had been spewing poison on the name of dalits. We should never forget that the dalits/scheduled tribes of today are the original inhabitants of India. Now, let us adhere to the topic:
- Reservation only provides you an entry into a job. It has no significance in a day-to-day performance which revolves round honesty, dedication, completion of tasks and sincere attitude towards the hoi polloi. Reserved category are the hard working lot whether in field or in office. They are not sitting at leisure in temples or exploiting citizens’ hard earned money on the name of malefic stars. Talent has no role in such a situation.
- Reservation has nothing to do with the ability. As a psychology student, I can prove that individuals are born with both general and specific abilities. Therefore, there is no question of raising the ability or quality aspect.
- Reservation did not give rise to corruption but yes corrupt people do take advantage of fake caste certificates to further deprive a needy or a person who was supposed to be the occupant of the seat.
- Nepotism has worsened the situation. Wrong people are placed in wrong positions. They are occupying the seats because of favouritism and not because of talent and definitely this lot does not belong to the reserved category.
- Sycophants too are not found in the reserved category but they are the unreserved lot who can go to any extent for seats. Is that a quality or should it be termed differently?
- In private jobs, anyone can enter without any caste classification but there also you will find a community who would be more interested in your caste than your aptitude. They themselves propagate the mindset to feel superior. While, psychology has an answer for the people who call themselves superior. It says that such people are actually inferior on every aspect.
- Reserved people of today are far more intelligent than others but their sheer intelligence cannot be digested by others who try to take the credit or just give birth to another conspiracy. Then, who do you think is corrupting the system?
- Casteism and religion are not important but humanism certainly is. If you cannot forward human qualities amongst the masses then you do not have any right to circulate bias and jealousy and deprive somebody from the basic needs.
- Women should never voice against reservation because they have enjoyed a respectable position under the aborigines of India or the dalits of today. They were reduced to a mere commodity and only the conspirators of casteism are responsible for the downfall of women in India.
- We should never forget that every action has its equal and opposite reaction. If you spread casteism, you ultimately would be a victim of your own mindset.
Briefly, exception could be there but it would be wise from the humanistic approach to get rid of the deeply embedded casteism from our psyche after which reservations apparently would become insignificant.
