It is not too late to make a New Years resolution. And for those who are already struggling with the resolutions they have made for this year, heres a deeper look into resolutions.

AS BORING as an introduction can get, it could never be more boring than an introduction with a definition. Especially when later the author succumbs to defining the definition itself. But however strange it might sound, I am amused with the profuse usage of the word ‘resolution’ these days. Tired with its enormous usage by every Tom, Dick and Harry, I chose to consult the dictionary.com for a precise definition (one that would be elusive to most people who use it). The lexicon says: resolution is the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.

With the homecoming of yet another ‘New Year’, this word is sure to jam into your ears a lot more than sticky ear wax. After all, a lot of self-acclaimed television journalists, these days, are trying to know people’s New Year’s resolutions. As an audience, I can almost gauge their desperation to cover up whatever media space they have authorised in whichever way they can. But unfortunately, even as we have entered a new year, the media fails to resolve to innovate better ways of grabbing the attention of their audience.

And what about the resolutions that are voiced from the other end? Well, they are as stale as they can be. While some claim that their resolution is to not have a resolution (Did they also resolve to remain oblivious of the paradoxes in their own words?), others get all mushy and rave about how they will shower all their love on their latest poodle or whatever that has caught their fancy.

If at all a resolution stands to represent any sort of determination to follow a plan or a procedure, what is funny is that the resolutionists wait for days to get determined while the New Year ushers in.

No wonder that they are all burnt out to stick to their resolutions later!
