Rival Salman and SRK's films star of IIFA 2011
The stars of the evening in the 2011 IIFA awards were Dabangg and My name is Khan. Where on one hand SRK was present to take the best actor award from Hillary Swank, Salman Khan missed all the fun this year (for well known reason).
IT WAS a star-studded evening and everyone put on their best dresses, makeup and got ready for an evening of awards, speeches and champagne. After all, it was the twelfth International Film Festival Awards hosted in Toronto. The centre of attraction of the evening was, however, Dabangg and My name is Khan, as both the films were the most popular according to the voting process of the Toronto people.

Apart from this two newcomers also hit the right cord with the Toronto people, Anushka Sharma who bagged the best female role award for her role in Band Baaja Baarat and Sonakshi Sinha for her supporting role in Dabangg. Even Ranvir Singh impressed everyone with his role in Band Baaja, and bagged the award for the best supporting actor.

Shahrukh Khan made an exception to his own rule of wearing black suit to award functions, and chose a raspberry coloured shirt and black waistcoat with black pants for the prestigious event. He received the award for the best actor for his role in My name is Khan from two times Oscar winner Hillary Swank, and kissed her hand and bowed. He thanked Toronto by the words, “I am glad that I could receive this award on this day. I have received so much love that tonight I am a Torontonian."  My name is Khan also won the Best direction and best story award.

Salman Khan missed out on the big night for Dabangg. The film, which set many records in homeland, also impressed the Toronto people as it was voted as the best film. Sajid-Wajid, alongwith Lalit Pandit bagged the best Music award for the foot tapping songs in the film. The best screenplay award also went to Dabangg and the best playback singer award went to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for ‘Tere mast mast do nain’, while ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ got Mamta Sharma the best playback singer award, both for Dabangg

Arjun Rampal also made a comeback into the world of awards by bagging the best actor in the negative role for his film Rajneeti. Sharmila Tagore while receiving the Outstanding Achievement award from Shabana Azmi, said that director’s like Hrishikesh Mukherjee has helped her to keep her Bengali sensibilities in place. Asha Bhosle received Lifetime Achievement award for her dedicated contribution to the film industry.
