Rashtriya Lok Dal's (RLD) president Ajit Singh has lost Lok Sabha elections from Baghpat constituency in Western Uttar Pradesh to Satyapal Singh of BJP, who was former Mumbai Police Commissioner. RLD is an ally of the Congress in UPA.
In a bid to analyze the probable reasons of one of the biggest defeats in the Lok Saha polls we spoke to few political experts.

Dr. Purushottam Aggarwal, Political Analyst said, "It was an obvious defeat, this is going to reflect in the rest of the country and it shows the endorsement of Modi, particular in the western UP."

Sudhir Panwar, a political science professor from Lucknow University said, "Ajit Singh lost his Jat and Muslim vote bank after the Muzzafarnagar riots, and his defeat is its reflection."

Dr. Ashok Acharya, a Political Science Professor from DU said, "BJP's sweep is all across, Muzzafarnagar riots have been a major reason behind this defeat. Still Ajit Singh's defeat is really a big surprise."
