Robert 32, who stayed in Neustadt-Eilvese Hannover, died near his home near a railway level crossing.A media officer for the Niedersachsen police said that first indications pointed to a suicide. Robert was a probable and was in running for next year’s World Cup to be played in South Africa. He had won eight international caps and surely had a great future. He had missed the last three Germany’s qualifiers as he was down with a stomach virus and had just returned to action after 2 months.
Oliver Bierhoff, Germany’s General manger said that they were all shocked and did not have any words, after getting to know about the tragic death of Enke. Dr Theo Zwanzider, the president of the German Football Association (DFB) said that he and the whole of the football community are deeply distressed and in mourning. He further added that all their sympathy goes to Robert’s wife and his family.In 2006, Robert’s daughter Lara had died of a rare heart condition, when she was only 2 years of age. He left behind, his wife Teresa and an eight month old adopted daughter.
