PHILIPP KOHLSCHREIBER may not have been a well known player in the ATP circuit, but after his victory against Andy Roddick in the first round of the Cincinnati Open, the player has suddenly grabbed the headlines in all the leading sports pages in most of the newspapers. The score read 6-7, 7-5 and 6-1 in favour of the German Philipp Kohlschreiber who created the biggest upset in the tournament so far.

The 15th seeded player from the US, Roddick played well during the first set of the match, though it was a competitive set where he turned out to be triumphant. He won the set 7-6. The match also witnessed the American player losing his cool as he smashed his racket on the court. Later, he also hit the ball into the stands too.

It was this temper, too, that played a pivotal role in the 47th ranked German player victory over Roddick, who was very eager for a win in the competition. He was passing several comments towards the umpire too, which disturbed his concentration. The umpire had given him warnings for his burst of words, and his actions on the court.

Philipp Kohlschreiber must be excited as he has beaten one of the former Grand slam Champions and a Cincinnati Open winner too. This match could help him in building confidence ahead of the competition. On the other hand, it is very disappointing for the American player to be kicked out of the tournament so early, as a win could have given him good match practise ahead of the US Open, which starts later this month. He can use this time now to correct his weakness and work on his strong service game and his ground strokes too before the US Open commences.
