The player has been suspended as UEFA has decided that his kick on one of the players from Montenegro last Friday during the European qualifiers to be an assault, as reported by espnstar.com. The England team are in a spot of bother as they are not sure, whether they should take the striker, Rooney along with the squad or not. But, if they are sure to progress into the next rounds of the competition they should surely take the risk, as he is a player who is sure to make an impact if given a chance. Looking at his form for the past few months or so, he would be a major threat for defenders he is pitted against. A tough call has to be made by the coach, Capello, who is to select the team for the European Championship 2012. Hence, who would be playing as a striker for England in the first three games of the tournament? Daniel Sturridge and Andy Carroll are the most probable players to start the game in his absence. UEFA’s ban on the player also seems appropriate as Fabio Capello also said after the game that the kick was a very silly mistake that the player committed. The player later also apologised for his action.
The England's Football Association might be thinking of appealing against the ban that has been imposed on the player. But one has to say, the UEFA does not seem to be in any mood to reverse their decision.
