FORMER CHIEF Minister of Andhra Pradesh Konijeti Rosaiah has been named as the new Governor of Tamil Nadu. An order to this effect was issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. The 78-year-old veteran Congress leader will succeed Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala.
Mr. Rosaiah’s political career extends over half a century; he served as Chief Minister of AP from September 3, 2009 to November 24, 2010 after the then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy died in a helicopter accident. He ruled the state with the same cabinet as YSR had. He has also worked with Swatantra party under the leadership of N.G. Ranga.
The most noteworthy thing about Mr. Rosaiah’s career is that he presented the state budget for a record 16 times. Also, he served in the cabinet of M. Channa Reddy, T. Anjaiah, K. Vijayabhaskara Reddy, N. Janardhana Reddy and Rajasekhara Reddy between 1979 and 2009.
Mr. Rosaiah served as Lok Sabha MP from Narasaraopet constituency in Guntur District in 1998 for a short period and was twice appointed president of the APCC. He could not contest in the last general elections (2009) as Rajasekhara Reddy asked him to take rest and made him the member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative.
