AFTER A long one and half month wait, four teams have finally qualified for the play-offs of the Indian Premier League 2011. In the first qualifier of the IPL 2011 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 24, IPL defending champion Chennai Super Kings will take on IPL 2009 finalist Royal Challengers Bangalore.
 
In the IPL 4, the in-form Royal Challengers Bangalore has topped the points table with 19 points from 14 league matches. The Daniel Vettori-led Royal Challengers has won nine matches, lost four games and one match against Rajasthan Royals was abandoned due to rain.
 
Defending IPL champion Chennai Super Kings is the only team in the IPL history, who has qualified for the last four in all the four seasons of the tournament. The MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings was at the second spot in the points table with 18 points. Chennai and Mumbai both have same points and have won nine matches and lost five, but Chennai's net run rate is better than Mumbai.
 
During the Indian Premier League 4, both Bangalore and Chennai have had a face off twice with one match played in their respective home grounds.
 
During the tournament league round, Chennai has not lost even a single game at its home ground. Final match is also scheduled at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, and if tonight Dhoni and company win against Bangalore then according to the previous home record, chances are high that Chennai clinches the trophy again this season. However, at Wankhede Stadium Chennai has played one game in IPL 2011 and lost that game.
 
In the top ten run getters of the IPL 2011, Royal Challengers Bangalore has two players, whereas Chennai Super Kings has one player in the list. Bangalore’s Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli have scored 511 runs and 444 runs from nine and 13 matches respectively. Chennai's Michael Hussey has scored 429 runs from 12 games.
 
Royal Challengers’ Sreenath Aravind and Super Kings's Ravichandran Ashwin have taken 16 wickets each from 10 and 14 games respectively and they are the fourth leading wicket takers in the ongoing tournament.
 
In the ongoing IPL 2011, Bangalore's captain Daniel Vettori is the most economical bowler so far and his 40 overs have gone at a rate of just 5.40 an over, whereas Chennai's captain MS Dhoni has the departed batsmen five times by stummings and this is most such dismissals among the wicketkeepers in the tournament.
