RTI response: Occupying double government bungalows
With even Supreme Court finding it difficult to fill vacancies of judges at the Apex Court because of shortage of bungalows, it is unfair to allow additional bungalows in addition to spacious ones already allotted to persons holding elite postings.

ACCORDING TO RTI-response received from CPWD, three dignitaries are occupying additional government-bungalows in New Delhi. Additional bungalows occupied by two of these personalities are Lok Sabha Speaker Smt Meira Kumar at 6 Krishna Menon Marg, and Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad at 5 South Avenue.

Apart from these, bungalow-number 12 at Teen Murti Lane is allotted in name of Rajya Sabha Chairman. But CPWD-list does not clarify if this bungalow continues to be occupied by former Chairman of Rajya Sabha Bhaironsingh Shekhawat against whom eviction-process was initiated, or it is an additional bungalow now allotted to present Chairman.

With even Supreme Court finding it difficult to fill vacancies of judges at the Apex Court because of shortage of bungalows, it is unfair to allow additional bungalows in addition to spacious ones already allotted to persons holding elite postings. These dignitaries should vacate additional bungalows at their own rather than initiation of any eviction-process. Government should also ensure that additional bungalows may never be allowed in future.
