RTI petition has revealed that not only are judges, their spouses, dependent children and parents entitled to enjoy privileged protocol courtesies at airports, railway-stations, hospitals and other government-departments, but even distant relatives.
THE PUBLIC information officer at the Delhi High Court has, in response to an RTI petition, revealed that not only are judges, their spouses, dependent children and parents entitled to enjoy privileged protocol courtesies at airports, railway stations, hospitals and other government departments, but that even distant relatives including in-laws, adult children and other relations are entitled for such facilities.
Every protocol and facility awarded to the privileged one costs he public exchequer. Otherwise also, it is not justified to make unlimited and unrestricted relations of judges, privileged over normal citizens; they must not be entitled to privileged protocols and facilities. Protocol and other government facilities should be restricted to judges, their spouses, dependent children and parents only. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) should look into the matter.
The same rule should be applicable to all those in government departments or public sector undertakings where facilities are similarly extended to family members of the one who originally merits the entitlement.
