IT WAS perhaps one of the biggest successes of Right to Information Act that an RTI petition became instrumental in making Supreme Court judges agreeing to disclose details of their assets and wealth on website of the apex court. Noble decision of all the honourable judges of Supreme Court will tend to be a trend-setter for judges of high courts in states to follow the same.
It is time that such declaration by those in legislature may be put on respective websites of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and of state-legislatures. Presently, it is at discretion of chairpersons of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to allow access to such details. It may be mentioned that Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari himself volunteered to declare details of his assets and wealth without being asked for by any one. Such a bold initiative should better come from every one in Indian governance system.
