Ruling party people manhandled teachers in Orissa
The Teachers' and Employees' Association of block grant secondary schools had decided to demonstrate at Chief Minister's home turf-Hinjili to press their demands and to attract the attention of Naveen Patnaik led government.
RULING BIJU Janata Dal people have manhandled the teachers demonstrating under the banner of Teachers' and Employees' Association of block grant secondary schools on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), at Hinjili- the home constituency of BJD supreme and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Notably, the Teachers' and Employees' Association of block grant secondary schools had decided to demonstrate at Chief Minister’s home turf-Hinjili to press their demands and to attract the attention of Naveen Patnaik led government. The teachers had deliberately fixed the date on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, for the demonstration in protest against Patnaik's betrayal to them.

Earlier, the teachers’ association had briefed the media that 1979 block grant high schools and 447 other deserved high schools are being debarred from direct and full grants due to the negligence of the state government. "Showing scarcity of funds and pretending talks are going on with the Union government, the Chief Minister has betrayed us by not giving what these schools deserve," said association president Prasant Mohapatra while ruing that though most of the teachers and employees of aforesaid high schools have been working for last the 25 years, they are still to get full payments. "We demand that the government take away block grants and give 100 per cent grants," said association president Prasant.

As per the decision, the association had sought the permission and had acquired it earlier. But, the administration had canceled the permission prior to the public rally of the teachers at Hinjili, sighting the Ayodhya Verdict, the reason of cancellation.

However, the teachers association was in no mood to cancel it and as per their decision, they had gathered at Hinjili to demonstration despite the intervention of local administration and some influential leaders of ruling BJD.

On the day of Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), the teachers had taken out a public rally from Jagannath temple of Hinjili town in Ganjam district. The teachers were chanting slogans against the state government and even used some unpleasant words on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik that irritated the local leaders of ruling BJD.

Then the people belonging to the ruling BJD under the leadership of Pabitra Panigrahi, the vice chairman of Hinjili Notified Area Council (NAC) had manhandled the teachers who were demonstrating peacefully. Tussle between the teachers and the BJD people continued for some time. The police and the people had then intervened and unruly situation was brought under control.
