Russian TV celebrity Ksenia Sobchak goes the Pussy Riot way?
Ksenia Sobchak, a Russian socialite, TV celebrity and former friend of Prez Vladimir Putin who later turned opposition activist, has shot into limelight once again by projecting herself as Virgin Mary. Her act of selling T-shirts with herself as the Virgin Mary has given rise to a major controversy in the country by offending the believers.
ONCE A Kremlin insider, Sobchak ditched Putin and joined the protest rallies held as a response to the alleged electoral frauds by Putin. She was targeted by the investigative committee of Russia and her apartment in Moscow was searched.
Sobchak was selling the shirts at a Moscow departmental store on Saturday as tens of thousands of anti-Putin protesters marched through nearby streets. With her latest act, she became a huge media attraction.
One may recall the trial and conviction of Pussy Riot members had attracted considerable criticism both in Russia and the West.
