Ryan Leaf, who had once been a star Washigton state Quarterback, was accused of attempting to get Hydrocodone, with incomplete medical records. In the Texas drug and robbery case, he had stolen the drug from an injured player's apartment.
FORMER NFL Quarterback Ryan Leaf has accepted a plea begain, pleading guilty in the Texas drug and robbery case, to get 10 years of probation. His lawyer Bill Kelly stated that Ryan Leaf has pled guilty to seven counts of of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one of simulated controlled substance, in lieu of the burglary charge being dropped. He will also pay $20,000 in fines.
Ryan Leaf, who had once been a star Washigton state Quarterback, was accused of attempting to get Hydrocodone, a restricted painkiller, with incomplete medical records. He had also in Texas barged his way into an apartment and stolen Hydrocodone, that had been prescribed to an injured footballer. The football player had sent a letter to Randall County District Attorney James Farren and asked to drop the burglary charge, a move which led to the plea bargain.
Randall County District Attorney James Farren said, "He's not happy about being a key factor in a criminal prosecution of his former coach (Ryan Leaf). I suspect that he and most of the young men Ryan Leaf worked with ... want him to get some counseling and help. They care about him."
The deal still needs to be approved by the judge to go through. If it is and Ryan Leaf, a former Texas coach, does complete his probation sucessfully, there will nothing on his record about the conviction, though the arrest would stay. If on the other hand, he fails his probation, Ryan Leaf could be jailed.
