Ryota Igarashi - Will he join Mets?
It is believed that very soon Mets will be signing Ryota Igarashi, a Japanese Pitcher to a 2 year deal. Mets eagerly need an outfielder to hit in the middle of their batting order. Last season, Igarashi was 3-2 with a 3.19 ERA in 56 games.

Ryota Igarashi will have a chance to become Franciso Rodriquez’s set up man once he’s with Mets. Mets lost Billy Wagner and JJ Putz from last year’s patchwork assemblage of relievers and they badly need to fill in that gap and upgrade that area.

Who is Ryota Igarashi?
Igarashi is a 30 year old right handed reliever, who throws in the upper 90’s and adds it with a hard splitter which he delivers at around 90mph. He has pitched for the Yakult Swallows in the Japanese Central League since 1999 and was in demand early this year by many major leagues including the Mets, Yankees, the Red Sox and the Indians. Most of them believed him to be a very effective late inning reliever at the major league level.

He’s also got a slider and curve that he mixes at times but usually it’s a fastball. However at times he has struggled with his control over the course of his career. Last season, Igarashi was 3-2 with a 3.19 ERA in 56 games.
