'Saare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara' is the best slogan: Astronaut Rakesh Sharma
It was a proud moment for the state of Jammu and Kashmir as renowned Astronaut Rakesh Sharma, who created history by becoming the first Indian to travel in space on April 2,1984, shared memories of his journey from student life to space travel with students from different schools on Wednesday at a Jammu school.

Sharing memories of his experience in space flight, Wing Commander (retd) Rakesh Sharma termed, "Saare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara" as the best slogan. In 1984, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had enquired from him that how he was feeling in space about his country India, and he had said, while replying to the late Gandhi that "Saare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara' (India is the best in the World).

Besides sharing memories, Wing Cdr Sharma also advised students about the qualities required for becoming an astronaut, importance of focus, discipline and commitment. It was a rare unique opportunity for the students to meet the veteran astronaut and go through his journey in space.

India's first spaceman, Wing Cdr Sharma, Hero of Soviet Union, is adorned with the Ashok Chakra.

Besides eminent personalities from different walks of life, large number of students and teaching staff of the school also participated in the session.

The purpose of the session was to inspire, motivate and ignite young minds besides providing them a common platform to interact with the renowned personality.
