The Compaq Cup final which happened on Monday, saw India win by 46 runs when the Lankan chase collapsed in 46.4 overs. Sachin Tendulkar contributed to the Indian victory with his 44th ODI century in the match.
MASTER BLASTER Sachin Tendulkar with his 44th ODI century guided India to a massive 319 run victory for five, while Sri Lanka fell 46 runs less in their chase. "This is one of my best innings. I will rate this up considering the conditions the ground and the humidity," said Tendulkar, who was declared both Man of the Match and Man of the Series for his stupendous show with the bat in the Compaq Cup tournament.
The seventh ranked ODI batsman as per ICC, Tendulkar added 95 runs with Rahul Dravid for the opening stand and moved to deliver 110 runs during his partnership with Captain MS Dhoni for the second wicket. Sachin said conditions made batting difficult and he was happy to score at a time India needed him to perform. He added, “I lost all my nails. I would like to congratulate Sri Lanka for producing fantastic cricket.”
Tendulkar had cramps in his leg during his 133-ball knock but the batsman said he was fine. "It's all right, (a) few cramps here and there but (the) body is holding up," he said. Looking ahead, he said that the conditions would be better in South Africa and promised that India would do well in the Champions Trophy there.
