Sachin Tendulkar, Alastair Cook among others in ICC Test XI
Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, Graeme Swann and Dale Steyn are the only cricketers who were selected both in the ICC one-day team of the year and the ICC Test team by the members of the selection panel.

FIVE MEMBERS from the latest Test No. 1 crowned team, England, as well as four South Africans grabbed slots in the ICC Test XI of the year, whereas “The Man of the Records”, Sachin Tendulkar has been also included in the XI for the number four spot for the third consecutive year. Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has been named in the side as captain and wicketkeeper in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test team of the year. Dale Steyn of South Africa features in the ICC Test XI for the fourth year in a row.


Five English players including batsmen Alastair Cook, Jonathan Trott and bowlers Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and James Anderson have been included in the ICC Test XI. The other players to make it to the Test team of the year include four South African batsmen Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers, all-rounder Jacques Kallis and fast bowler Dale Steyn. Indian left hand medium pacer Zaheer Khan makes it to the team as a 12th man.

Former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd headed the specially appointed selection panel, whereas former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas, former England captain Mike Gatting, former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison and former South African bowler Paul Adams were the other members of the selection committee. The selection panel selected the ICC Test XI based on players' performances between August 11 2010 and August 3 2011.

Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar made 973 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 64.86 during the stipulated period, whereas English batsman Cook made 1302 runs from 12 matches at 76.58 which included six centuries and four half centuries. England bowler James Anderson picked 50 wickets in 11 Tests at 25.48.

Yesterday, the selection panel announced the ICC one-day team of the year, where four Indian players from the ICC Cricket World winning squad including captain MS Dhoni, dashing opener Virender Sehwag, all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and left-hand pacer Zaheer Khan have been. Dhoni was also named as the captain.
