Sachin Tendulkar named in ESPN-Cricinfo's elite Test XI team
Elated about his inclusion in the test XI, Tendulkar said that it would have been great to play in this dream team, to walk out with Bradman after lunch, or build a partnership with Viv Richards, and talk to Sobers about cricket.
ACE INDIAN batsman Sachin Tendulkar is ecstatic after being getting a place reserved in the ESPN-Cricinfo's all-time Test World XI. Tendulkar is the only Indian player in the team comprising four Australians, three West Indians and one Pakistani. Being the only player from the present generation, he managed to make a cut to be named alongside the legends like Sir Don Bradman, Viv Richards and Gary Sobers.

The players in the Test XI are Jack Hobbs, Len Hutton, Don Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Viv Richards, Garry Sobers, Adam Gilchrist, Malcolm Marshall, Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Dennis Lillee.

West Indian ace batsman Brian Lara failed to reserve a berth in the listings although he was named in the second World XI which includes legends like Barry Richards, George Headley, Wally Hammond, Imran Khan, Alan Knott, Bill O'Reilly, Fred Trueman, Muttiah Muralitharan and SF Barnes.

The deciding jury consisted of a former captain from each of the test playing teams apart from four cricket historians and authors. The jury included Ian Chappell, Clive Lloyd, Tony Greig, Duleep Mendis, Ali Bacher, Intikhab Alam, John Wright, Ajit Wadekar.

Elated about his inclusion in the test XI, Tendulkar said that it would have been great to play in this dream team, to walk out with Bradman after lunch, or build a partnership with Viv Richards, and talk to Sobers about cricket. (And) just playing and having a conversation with them about cricket. I would liked to have asked Hobbs and Hutton what it was like to play on uncovered wickets, who were the best bowlers they had faced, and of course, the mental aspect of the game.

Wasim Akram, the only Pakistani player could not be less elated either. On his inclusion he said that he had never thought that he would play for Pakistan, let alone be picked for an all-time World XI like this. It is a very special thing, to be picked by these judges and even more of an honour to be in the same team as guys like Sir Don Bradman, Sir Viv Richards, Sir Garry Sobers, Sachin and the others.
