Narendra Modi has delivered a stunner. With the NDA winning over 300 seats out of 543 Lok sabha seats in the 2014 general elections, the Gujarat strongman has got the mandate he asked the nation for. The BJP on its own got the clear majority, guaranteeing the change the teeming millions of the country looking for. After 30 years of coalition governments at the centre, Modi has powered the BJP to a historic win. There can?t be a second thought that it was a Modi wave all through some would call it tsunami in the country. Ab Ki Baar Modi Sarkar seemed to have sailed through the imagination of the Indian electorate across. What's significant of this election is that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA trounced the Congress to its all-time lowest tally. Of course, the unprecedented victory isn't an overnight job. In the 2009 elections, when the results finally established that the BJP would sit in the opposition, a few people began to plan for 2014.In some ways, 2009 was the start of the massive campaign that would begin on virtual platforms and culminate in the on ground campaigns of 2014, which has worked spectacularly for the saffron party. With Modi becoming the next Prime Minister- he is the second Gujarati to occupy the premier position things must be changing now and will change quickly. Modi combined the BJP?s traditional twin-leadership of an ideological hardliner and a decisive leader all unto himself, leading to a massive mandate for the saffron front. He has cut across all sections of society far from being just polarization along communal lines as some hardliners would suggest. In a country haunted by low economic growth, it was expected that Modi will be the preferred choice of over 150 million first-time voters who were on the lookout for better opportunities for themselves. The mandate is actually a complete rejection of the Congress which made a mess of the economy. Another factor working for Modi was massive support from housewives, who had been toiling to maintain their kitchen budgets.
If every big victory comes with big responsibility, Modi is sure to show his prowess as the government formation gets going. With a clear mandate given by voters to the BJP-led NDA, India
Inc has exuded confidence that the incumbent prime Minister will initiate bold and decisive policy reforms to promote economic growth. Ficci, for example, hopes that the mandate will help the new leadership restore much needed investor confidence, attract higher investments and generate employment, especially in the manufacturing sector. During electioneering, Modi himself had promised to unblock stalled investments in power, road and rail projects to revive economic growth that has fallen to a decade low of below 5 percent. Now the country has shown its faith in the BJP and its agenda, it is time to act and rewrite India's political history post-2014 elections.
