Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College inaugurated in Koraput by Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik
The Koraput Medical College in the name of Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College (named after Saheed Laxman Nayak renowned tribal freedom fighter) was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik in Koraput on Monday.

While addressing people at the inauguration, he said that the hospital fulfills a long awaited dream of the people of this region. It will provide high quality healthcare to entire south Odisha. He dedicated the medical college and hospital to the people of Odisha.

The Koraput Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College, is the first state-run medical college inaugurated after a gap of 54 years, afterthe setting up of MKCG Berhampur way back in 1962.

The Cuttack SCB Medical College had been established in 1944 and the VSS in Burla in 1959, making SLN Medical College the state's fourth government-run institute. The Health Minister Pratap Jena who accompanied the Chief Minister said that near about Rs 192 crore was spent on building the Koraput Medical College, while an additional budget of Rs 50 crore had been earmarked for procurement of its equipment. The Medical Council of India has issued the letter of admission to run the first academic session of the medical college with a student capacity of 100 from this year onwards.
