INDIA'S ACE badminton player Saina Nehwal is on an all time high as she has been conferred with coveted Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in New Delhi. Thus, the purple patch in her career just got extended as she has recently clinched three back to back tournaments that included Indian Open, Singapore Super Series and Indonesia Super Series. The Khel Ratna Award is the highest award given by the government to a sports person in the country.
Amidst all the furore, the champion has her feet firmly on the ground and her coach, Pullela Gopichand has said that she will continue to practise and stick to her schedule as she has to compete in the ensuing super circuit.
Currently ranked world number 2, Saina extended her gratitude to the government and said although she has won several honours nothing is at par with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, though she had previously won Arjuna Award last August, Padma Shri in January followed by the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.Talking about the tournament vcictories, Saina said that she was ecstatic and happy over the positive turn of events.
