Sakshi Maharaj invites EC's ire for his `4 wives, 40 children' remark, Commission issues him notice
Controversial BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj has once again landed in trouble for his thoughtless remarks. The Election Commission has issued him a show cause notice for his comment `that those who talk of four wives and forty children are responsible for population problem, saying that prima facie Sakshi Maharaj has violated the model code of conduct.

He has time till tomorrow morning to file his reply and explain as to why no action should be taken against him. The Commission issued him a notice last night as he had prima facie violated the model code of conduct which was imposed from January 4 in all five poll-bound states including Uttar Pradesh.

While speaking at a Sant Sammelan in Meerut last week, Sakshi Maharaj had said, "Desh mein samasyaein khadi ho rahi hain jansankhya ke karan. Uske liye Hindu zimmedar nahin hain Zimmedar toh wo hain jo chaar biwion aur chalees bachchon ki baatein karte hain." (There are problems in the country because of the growth of population. Hindus are not responsible for that. Those responsible are the ones who talk of four wives and 40 children).

He had also alleged that the money earned through cow slaughter was being used to fund terrorism. The BJP MP's divisive remarks have come just days after the recent ruling of the Supreme Court that political parties and candidates can't seek votes in the name of religion or caste. The first phase of polling starts in Uttar Pradesh on February 11.
