Sale of liquor for revenue collection a shame!
Government of Tamil Nadu has announced an increase of Rs10 and Rs 15 on liquor bottles distributed by the Government Distilleries in a bid to increase revenue.

Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi advocated for complete prohibition on liquor in our country; because he knew the truth that alcoholism will spoil the entire generations to come. But after Independence neither the Central Government nor the State Governments cared for the prohibition.

It is pity to note that State Governments in the country are running on the huge revenue collected through the distribution of liquor themselves. It is a known fact that the consumption of liquor is increasing drastically day by day among the B P L class and lower middle class, which is also a main hindrance in the way of their progress.

They are not in a position to increase their economic status as a large chunk of population is struggling to meet their both ends due to consumption of liquor for which they spend a huge sum.

It is a matter of shame for the central and state governments that they want to run the country and the states from revenue generated after liquor sale. It is high time for India to take this matter seriously.

The new Central Government must act promptly and pass legislation to impose prohibition on liquor sale in the entire country. Unless a total prohibition is imposed India will remain a poor and under developed country in all respects.
