Will Dabangg 2 have the Dabangg effect and will Chulbul Pandey re-create the same kind of magic? Not only the producers but the Star Network are hopeful for the same as the makers of the film have sold the TV rights to the TV network before a single shot being filmed.
SALMAN HAS proven with Dabaang sequel that presently the film business is on a high. They are yet to start shooting next week and have already sold the satellite rights to Star Network for Rs 48-50 crore for 11 years. Not only that, the rights for the music of the yet-to-be born film was sold to T-series for over Rs 10 crore, according to a report in the Economic Times. The deal was confirmed from Star Network’s end but they did not divulge the details or the sales figure. The film has already recovered a part of the budget even before going on the floor. Inspite of all the business, people are still thinking whether Dabangg sequel would be able to create the kind of hype it created with its first movie.

The answer surely lies in the future but as far as business is concerned Dabangg is going on the right track. Taking a note from Salman’s film Bodyguard, which had registered record television rating points (TRP) of 10.3 when it was aired on Star Gold in December 2011, we can say that Dabangg would surely create new records.
If Dickens was born in India in this century and he would have said “this is the best of times, this is the worst of times” for Bollywood cinema. With enormous presence of technology, theatres have lost much of the grandeur that it used to hold in the yesteryears. While watching drama unfolds in the silver screen with all its promises and suspense was what intrigued the common man’s mind. However, these days television promotes a movie, news shows the promotion and half of the story gets out in the process killing a certain part of the drama around a movie. While for that reason it is the worst of times for films but for cinema as a business it is the best of times.
While the initial years of selling the satellite rights to the television channel was frowned upon by the distributors, as everything else, this trend also caught on and became the way of film business. Now as soon as a film is decided upon and if a film is doing well in the box office, television channel gets busy to chase the satellite rights for it. An example of such is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Rockstar among many others. However, Dabangg is one of its kinds to have sold its rights even before starting the movie and mostly the credit goes to the original Dabangg and its huge pan-India popularity.
