Sania Mirza out of US Open 2009
On Wednesday, Italian Flavia Pennetta whitewashed 22-year-old Sania Mirza as she powered to 6-0, 6-0 win in the second round of the US Open. After losing Mirza said that she still had the doubles and the mixed doubles to contest in New York.

THE 22-year-old Indian tennis player Sania Mirza was whitewashed by world number 10 Flavia Pennetta on Wednesday (September 2). Pennetta demolished Sania Mirza 6-0, 6-0 in the second round of US Open.

Pennetta, the first Italian woman to reach the world's top 10, did not give a chance to Mirza. She raced to victory in just 50 minutes to set up a second-round clash with French 17th seed Amelie Mauresmo or Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada.

"If she plays like that she is going to win the Open," Mirza told reporters following the 50-minute, second-round blowout at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

"I was not thinking, 'I am playing such horrible tennis.' She had an answer for everything. That's something you just have to deal with and move on. Tomorrow's a new day," Mirza stated.

Sania Mirza, after a battling performance against Olga Govortsova in the first round said that she was fit and ready for the match in the second round. But losing the first set in 22 minutes and the second in 28 minutes, it can be witnessed that Mirza's fightback attitude never came. It was like a no contest clash between the the two giving Pennetta a chance to take a 2-0 lead. In th entire match Mirza managed to win only 21 points.

Before Wednesday's match Mirza and Pennetta had met five times in which the Italian had finished on top on three occasions.

Pennetta grabbed the title in Los Angeleslast month and had been enjoying success in a continuous fashion, while Sania Mirza had been playing on the ITF circuit, a level below the main tour.

After being whitewashed in the second round, Mirza said that she still had the doubles and the mixed doubles to contest in New York and was confident she and her Canadian partner Daniel Nestor could do well in the latter.

"After that I will play in Asia and just try to stay healthy for the rest of the year for once," she added.

.nothing new for the people who know tennis. sania is born only to loose. she and her so called fans think that she has achieved a greater height just by being in top 100. never did they give a thought as to when people dont rememer the name of top 10 womens player who cares for top 100? only saving point is atleast india has a name in female tennis. the real proud achievers fortennis in india r leander paes and bhupathi. sania aunty's father has done the right thing by getting her engaged and now let her marry and retire gracefully from tennis. now her age is also over for tennis.
