Sania Mirza, reaches the finals of French open 2011 Doubles title
Sania Mirza alongside her Russian partner Elina Vesina is scheduled to play the finals of the French Open 2011. They have defeated serious contenders en route to the finals, which might help in building their confidence.
INDIAN TENNIS superstar Sania Mirza, along with her Russian partner Elina Vesina, stormed into the finals of the French open 2011. They turned out to be victorious against one of the favourites, Lisa Raymond and Liezel Hunber, in the semi-finals. The match went right down to the wire as the Indo-Russian pair clinched the game in the final set. The seventh seeded Indo-Russian pair will face an unseeded pair of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.

After a disappointing exit from the singles draw, Sania is determined to return home with a doubles title. After beating Lisa Raymond and Liezel Hunber with a score line of 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, their confidence must be sky high as they prepare for a major grand slam title. Sania’s backhand and forehand has been working very well to score points through her powerful ground strokes. They also defeated the top seeds from Argentina en route to the finals during the quarters.

It is for the first time ever that Sania has reached the finals of a major grand slam in Women’s doubles. Her best appearances have come during the US Open, 2007 and Wimbledon, 2008 where she had reached the quarter finals. Though she has won a major Grand slam in Mixed doubles, it is time for her to rewrite the history books by adding the doubles crown in her cabinet of trophies.

Sania Mirza remains the only Indian left in the fray who can bring a trophy to India. All top ranked Indian male players such as Somdev, Leander, Bhupathi, Bopanna crashed out before they could even have a shout for a title of the elusive French Open 2011 title.
