Indians have had a good outing in the doubles competition with Leander and Mahesh registering victories along with Sania and Somdev Devvarman wining their matches with respective partners in Wimbledon 2011. But Rohan Bopanna lost his doubles match.
THE FAMOUS Indian pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have managed to cross the initial hurdle and advance into the second round of the doubles competition, Wimbledon 2011. They defeated the Croatian pair of Ivan Dodig and Lovro Zovko in 3 sets. The score read 6-7(7-9), 6-4, 6-4. Somdev and Japan’s Kei Nishikor also won their first round doubles match against the German pairing of Rainer Schuettler and Alexander Waske. Other Indian who managed to make it into the next round is Sania Mirza along with her doubles partner Elena Vesnina who defeated a Czech Republican pair.

The fourth seeded pair would be confident about their game as they won their match against a pairing of Anna Chakvetadze and Melanie Oudin in straight sets. They won the match convincingly with a score line of 6-0, 7-6.Somdev after a disappointing loss in the singles competition looks to showcase his skills in the doubles competition as he is paired with Japan’s Kei Nishikori. They won their first round match with a score line of 6-7 (3), 6-3 and 6-2. They showed some more determination during the second and the third set after their loss in the first set. They are set to face Michael Llodra of France and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia, who have been seeded sixth in the competition. The Indian-Japanese pair has to be on top of their game if they are to progress in the next round.In the Wimbledon doubles competition 2011, the Indians have played well to reach the next round of the competition apart from Bopanna, the sole Indian who lost in the doubles competition.
